Successful Octopus Closure Opening at Singino BMU –26 June 2025

On 26th June 2025, Singino BMU celebrated the official opening of its octopus reef closure site with remarkable success. The closure yielded an impressive total harvest of 8,477 kilograms of octopus,

This achievement highlights the commitment of local fishers and the effectiveness of temporary reef closures in restoring octopus populations. By allowing the species time to recover and grow, the community has demonstrated that sustainable fisheries management not only protects marine ecosystems but also boosts local livelihoods. The Kilwa District BMU Network extends its heartfelt appreciation to all stakeholders who supported this initiative. As we look ahead, efforts will continue to focus on replicating this success in other areas, strengthening community participation, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our marine resources
